Dr. Devi Atukorallaya, associate professor of oral biology, received $10,000 in funding through the UM University Research Grants Program for her project titled Characterizing the Effects of Alcohol and Wnt Pathway Modulation on the Morphological and Functional Development of Taste Sensory Organs.
Dr. Prashen Chelikani, associate dean (research) and professor of oral biology, received a Research Manitoba Innovation Proof-of-Concept Grant for his project Pea protein hydrolysates as a source of peptide-based natural bitter taste modifiers. He will receive $100,000 over two years.
Dr. Anil Menon, assistant professor of preventive dental science, is the recipient of a 2025 Manitoba Medical Service Foundation grant for his project Oral health status and treatment needs of seniors in personal care homes in Manitoba. Read more
Dr. Vimi Mutalik, division head of oral diagnosis and associate professor of dental diagnostic and surgical sciences, will receive $6,000 from the UM Community Engagement Fund for her project Early Detection of Oral Cancer in Manitoba: Bridging Gaps Through Community Engagement.
Dr. Robert Schroth, professor of preventive dental science, received $1,887,331 from the Health Canada Oral Health Access Fund Stream 1 (2025-2028) for the Development and implementation of a postgraduate internship in community oral health and dental public health. Dr. Chrysi Stavropoulou, assistant professor and program director of graduate periodontics, is a co-investigator on a study that received $20,000 from the Network for Canadian Oral Health Research’s New Frontiers Seed Grant Program Awards. The project is titled The Impact of a Novel Probiotic on Non-Surgical Treatment Outcomes in Peri-Implant Diseases: A Multi-Center Randomized Clinical Trial.
Dr. Wei Lin Daniel Su, periodontics resident, is the recipient of a 2025 Manitoba Medical Service Foundation grant for his project Short-term effectiveness of crown modification in treatment of dental implant disease. Read more
