Faculty and Staff Updates

Brenda Gerwing has been seconded to work in the dentistry and dental hygiene undergraduate student admission/affairs unit with Jean Lyon and Susan Petras. We appreciate Gerwing for utilizing her strong administrative skills and experience to support student services on the undergraduate level during a critical time. During this transition, Gerwing will continue to support the graduate programs.

Brooke Karlaftis is the new donor relations officer at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry. Read a message from her.

Natasha Makayev has accepted the permanent position of dental supplies, lab and kit coordinator in Clinic Support Services. Makayev has been working in dental stores in a project position for over a year. She has significant experience managing and coordinating inventory lists, including monitoring, ordering and stocking supplies.

Katalina Munoz has accepted a project position as rotation and curriculum development coordinator. In this new position, Munoz will continue supporting student rotation schedules and chair assignments in Clinical Support Services. She will also be assisting the chair of the Curriculum Advisory Committee with all administrative duties related to the development, enhancement and support for the curriculum review to meet accreditation requirements.

Dianne Charles Peterson has accepted the temporary maternity leave position of graduate program coordinator while Eli Miranda is on maternity leave. She has many years experience in administrative, financial and customer-oriented work within a variety of different cultural environments, including academia and government. 

Mehraz Sarker has accepted the project position as graduate program assistant to replace Brenda Gerwing. Sarker is a recent graduate student at the University of Manitoba, finishing his master’s in June 2023. He has previous experience working within academia and student services at the DW Akademie in Bangladesh.
