Canadian Association of Orthodontists meeting

Dr. Billy Wiltshire and Dr. Fabio Pinheiro attended the annual Canadian Association of Orthodontists meeting in Orlando, Florida, from Sept. 27 to 30. They met up with part-time instructors Drs. Tim Dumore, Robert Drummond, Catherine Fontaine-Sylvester and several orthodontic alumni, including Drs. JP Houle, Antoine Beaudet and Caley Hoediono, in addition to Dr. Mark Ziedenberg, an alumnus of 1997, one of Dr. Wiltshire’s first graduate residents at the University of Manitoba.

Orthodontic residents welcome and farewell

Dr. Tim Dumore, part-time assistant professor in graduate orthodontics, and Jen Dumore hosted the first-year orthodontic residents welcome and third-year residents farewell function in July at their home in Headingly. It was a fun get together of fellowship, including the hosts two beloved dogs.

Final clinical viva voce examination

Final year orthodontic residents Dr. Katherine Kazak and Dr. Helen Moon, successfully completed their final clinical viva voce examination in August. It is the final requirements to graduate from the 36 month full-time program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, enabling them to register as orthodontic specialists.

Diagnosis and treatment planning exams

First-year orthodontic residents Dr. Stella Korowski and Dr. Anita Lee successfully completed the diagnosis and treatment planning exams under the guidance of the external examiner, specialist orthodontist Dr. Murray Deller from Barrie, Ont., and internal examiners Drs. Billy Wiltshire, Gerry Solomon, Carolina Frota and Fabio Pinheiro.

Webinar features UM residents

A webinar held earlier this year by the Royal College of Dentists of Canada featured two UM graduate orthodontics residents.

Dr. Katherine Kazak spoke about online marketing in orthodontic practice and Dr. Helen Moon‘s presentation focused on how applicable are Bolton’s anterior and overall ratios for different ethnic populations world-wide.

Dr. William Wiltshire was the moderator.
