Crimson Cup

On March 7, Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry students set up a booth in the Dentistry Building to sign people up to give blood and provide stem cell swabs for Canadian Blood Services.

Dentistry students competed against learners from the Max Rady College of Medicine and the College of Pharmacy to see who could get the most people to sign up to claim the Crimson Cup.

“It’s really important because the Canadian Blood Services is low right now and they’re trying to bring awareness to it and one way to do that is to go into the colleges and see who is interested in donating,” said Nardin Soliman, a second-year dental student.

This year, the Max Rady College of Medicine won the Crimson Cup with 76 points, followed by the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry with 62 points and the College of Pharmacy with 35 points.

A representative from Canadian Blood Services said that donors are needed all summer long and people can book a lifesaving appointment at Blood.ca.

10 people stand around a table. One person has a swab in their mouth and another person is filling out a form.
