Students from the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry explored employment opportunities at the Career Fair held on January 31 on the Bannatyne campus.
Eight local dental clinics, eight rural clinics and three clinics from Ontario attended the event to recruit students. There was a recruitment firm from B.C. and one from Ontario that took part, and there were also three online presentations.
Thirty-three dental students and 10 dental hygiene students attended the event.
Nicole Oliver, a third-year dental hygiene student, said she learned there was a need for rural dental hygienists.
“As the school year wraps up, lots of dental offices are starting to recruit people that are about to graduate,” Oliver said. “There were lots of dental offices at the Career Fair that were from outside of Winnipeg, which was super helpful that they came to see us instead of us having to go to them.”
Oliver is now thinking about working in a rural community.
