Dr. Elliot Scott, a Professor Emeritus in the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, was a warm-hearted and cherished member of our academic community. Since joining the Department of Oral Biology in 1988, Elliott gave long and dedicated service to the Department of Oral Biology and leaves behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and scholarly excellence.

As a member Scientist of the Manitoba Institute of Child Health he maintained productive research interests in lung development and tobacco-induced diseases in research projects supported by national and provincial funding over a period of 28 years.

A stalwart educator and mentor, Dr. Scott supervised nearly 50 PhD, MSc and BSc research trainees with whom he published over 250 peer reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, abstracts and meeting presentations.

His commitment to scholarly discourse extended to his role as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Tobacco Induced Diseases, a position he held since 2005.

Following an extended term as Associate Dean of Research in the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, Dr. Elliott Scott became Department Head of the Oral Biology in 2012 until 2017. In addition, Elliott provided crucial expertise for anatomy instruction in both undergraduate and clinical graduate programs of Dentistry.

Beyond his academic achievements, Dr. Scott’s collegial spirit and administrative acumen made him a valued leader on numerous university committees, where his guidance and experience were instrumental.

Dr. Elliott Scott’s enduring impact on the academic and scientific community is matched only by the warmth and generosity with which he supported his colleagues and students. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our condolences got out to his family.

Kindest Regards,

Dr. Anastasia Kelekis-Cholakis
