KAIROS blanket exercise
Many faculty and staff participated in a KAIROS blanket exercise held on August 8. The exercise was facilitated by Debra Beach Ducharme, director of Indigenous health integration at Ongomiizwin – Education, with Elder Margaret Lavallee and Elder Charlotte Nolin. We journey on in our commitment to truth and reconciliation through our individual and collective thoughts and actions.
Curriculum renewal retreat
Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry and School of Dental Hygiene faculty gathered June 26 and 27 for a dentistry curriculum renewal retreat. To begin the renewal in a good way, faculty joined Knowledge Keeper Leslie Spillet from Ongomiizwin – Education in the Medicine Garden. Spillet invited all to participate in smudging. Faculty members paused, listened and reflected on their own positionality and intersectionality, and roles/responsibility for dismantling racism in health and education structures and systems.

Earlier this year, the college held a coffee party each day for a week to thank its part-time academics for the outstanding work they do.
