
Dr. Anastasia Kelekis-Cholakis, dean of the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, and Dr. Trenna Reeve, assistant professor and associate dean (clinical), served as chairs of the Deans and Associate Deans Clinic Committees respectively over the last two years. Dr. Kelekis-Cholakis will be moving on as vice-chair/treasurer of the Executive Committee for a two-year term.

On April 23, a Career Fair was held on the Bannatyne campus as a way to help provide students with job opportunities after graduation. There were 13 organization that took part, including dental clinics, recruiting companies and a university recruiting residents. More than 30 students from dentistry and dental hygiene attended.
Earlier this year, Dr. Dieter Schönwetter, professor and director of academic services, was invited to write a book chapter for a prestigious higher education publisher. His chapter abstract titled Cultivating Collaboration: Enhancing SoTL through Communities of Practice was accepted for inclusion in the publication International Perspectives on Academic Development – Understanding Purposes, Structures, and Contexts.
Dr. Carlo Sgarbanti, assistant professor of dental diagnostic and surgical sciences, and his wife, Romana, welcomed their second daughter on June 1, 2025. Congratulations!
Marziyeh (Mojan) Shafizadeh successfully defended her master of science in oral biology thesis on June 2, 2025. Shafizadeh was selected to chair the Oral Session for the IADR/PER General Session & Exhibition in Spain at the end of June, though she didn’t accept, as she was giving an oral presentation the same day at the conference
Part-Time Instructor Appreciation Week took place from March 31 to April 4, 2025, as a way to celebrate the instructors’ hard work and dedication. They were invited for coffee and dainties, and students showed their appreciation by creating thank-you posters.

Earlier this year, learners used their endowment funds to buy brand-new furniture for the student lounge.
