Ross McIntyre, longtime executive director of the Manitoba Dental Association (MDA), passed away on October 26, 2024.
McIntyre was a UM alum, majoring in economics and English while playing for the Bisons football team.
He joined the MDA in 1968 as secretary-treasurer and then served as executive director for 42 years. He played an essential part in shaping and moving dentistry forward in the province.
The Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry benefited from his service as executive director of the MDA.
To mark his 30 years of service as executive director, the MDA, his friends and colleagues established a fund at the UM dental college to support a scholarship that recognizes exceptional third-year students who have a strong ability to communicate with academic and support staff, patients and fellow students, and is a positive role model to fellow students.
McIntyre was also instrumental in setting up some of the MDA general awards, and the Ross McIntyre Radiology Centre at the dental college is named after him.
