Faculty, staff and learners share their passion for oral health care with future students throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July, about 100 students from Grades 6 to 12 took part in the Biomedical Youth Program Summer Camp<\/a><\/strong>. Undergrads and oral biology grad students supported the dentistry session.<\/p>\n\n\n

Professor of oral biology Dr. James Gilchrist<\/strong> is the program director. He told UM Today that the \u201ccamp is designed to spark curiosity and show students how science shapes the world around us.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three different events took place in November to give prospective dentistry and dental hygiene students some hands-on experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The college hosted 28 students from the Frontier School Division for an interactive workshop. It was part of UM\u2019s Health Care Careers Pathways initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Office of Community Engagement offers middle and high school students from throughout Manitoba the opportunity to spend time at the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences \u2013 including the College of Dentistry and School of Dental Hygiene \u2013 through a unique pathways program designed to open doors and provide an introduction to health-care careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students learned how to drill and fill a tooth. Fifteen first-year dentistry students helped with the workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The college held two sessions for Grade 9 students as part of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences\u2019 Take Our Kids to Work Day<\/strong><\/a>. Third-year dental students helped run the sessions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And dentistry and dental hygiene workshops were also held during Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Discovery Days in Health Sciences<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
