Dr. Ahmed Awad<\/strong>, a second year orthodontics resident, presented his thesis research topic at the International Association of Dental Research general session annual meeting held in San Diego, Calif., at the end of March. His presentation was titled \u201cEffect of Ultrasound on Alveolar Bone Defects during CAT treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

The University of Manitoba Orthodontic Alumni Dinner took place March 6 at Black+Blue Steakhouse in Vancouver. The special dinner celebrated the 60th anniversary of the orthodontic department and Dr. Billy Wiltshire<\/strong>‘s 30th anniversary at UM. <\/p>\n\n\n

The Dr. Anil Menon Lab<\/strong> serves as a dedicated space for community dentistry and dental public health research and training, aiming to enhance oral health equity throughout all ages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It prioritizes vulnerable and underserved groups such as seniors, especially those in long-term care, low-income children and adults, newcomers to Canada and Indigenous communities. The lab promotes applied, community-engaged research that guides service delivery, program evaluation and policy development in oral health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Committed to ethical practices and meaningful partnerships, it collaborates closely with community organizations and health stakeholders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, the Dr. Menon Lab will strive to act as a central hub for dental public health scholarship and practical solutions, bridging academic research with real-world clinical and community settings to improve prevention, increase access and boost oral health outcomes in Manitoba and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n

The inaugural early orthodontic treatment and growth modification orthopedic interdisciplinary clinic took place in January in the Graduate Orthodontic Clinic. Pediatric dentistry residents worked with orthodontic residents in an interdisciplinary collaborative way to diagnose and treat young patients needing orthodontic care in the mixed dentition phase requiring early intervention of developing malocclusion. <\/p>\n\n\n

Dr. Harpreet Bhasin-Kaur<\/strong> successfully challenged the Royal College of Dentists of Canada Prosthodontic Fellowship Examination and was inducted as a Fellow at last year’s the Annual Convocation in Halifax. <\/p>\n\n\n
