Dr. Aida Adlimoghaddam<\/strong>, research associate from the division of neurodegenerative disorder at St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre, received an American Alzheimer Research Grant in the amount of $175,000 USD to conduct her neuropharmacology research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Heather Armstrong<\/strong>, assistant professor of internal medicine, received a $1-million grant as PI from Weston Family Foundation to look at how certain types of dietary fibre can worsen symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A study led by Dr. Kathleen Decker<\/strong>,\u00a0associate professor of community health sciences, is focused on understanding the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on cancer care in Manitoba. Dr. Lorrie Kirshenbaum<\/strong>, UM Canada Research Chair in molecular cardiology and professor of physiology & pathophysiology and pharmacology & therapeutics, and his team received $1.1 million over five years for their study titled Regulation of Programmed Necrosis in the Heart<\/em>. A project led by Dr. Terry Klassen<\/strong>, professor of pediatrics and child health, is aimed at providing emergency department health-care professionals with the latest information about conditions related to COVID-19 and children. Dr. Rob Lorway<\/strong>, UM Canada Research Chair in global intervention politics and social transformation and professor of community health sciences, and his team received more than $512,000 over three years for their study titled Confronting Homophobia in Anal Health: Community-Based Program Science and HPV Among MSM in Nairobi, Kenya<\/em>. Dr. Thomas Murooka<\/strong>, associate professor of immunology, and his team received more than $719,000 over five years for their study titled Understanding the Cellular Mechanisms that Drive Clonal T Cell Expansion of the HIV Reservoir<\/em>. Read more<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A study led by Dr. Jennifer Yamamoto<\/strong>, assistant professor of internal medicine, is aimed at examining the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on gestational diabetes care in Canada received more than $355,000 from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Dr. Ryan Zarychanski<\/strong>, associate professor of internal medicine, and his team received more than $3.9 million over five years for their study titled Anti-Thrombotic Therapy to Ameliorate Clinical Complications in Community Acquired Pneumonia (ATTACC-CAP)<\/em>. Dr. Frederick Zeiler<\/strong>, professor of surgery, received $3.5 million in funding towards his research that’s looking at ways to provide more individualized care for patients with traumatic brain injuries.
