{"id":1765,"date":"2024-03-22T15:37:46","date_gmt":"2024-03-22T20:37:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca\/medicine\/?p=1765"},"modified":"2024-03-22T15:37:48","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T20:37:48","slug":"announcements-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca\/medicine\/announcements-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Announcements"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Dr. Meghan Azad<\/strong>, professor of pediatrics and child health and Canada Research Chair in developmental origins of chronic disease, was elected to the Executive Council of the International Society for Research in Human Milk and Lactation for a three-year&nbsp;term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was onsite at the Children&#8217;s Hospital Research Institute of\u00a0Manitoba in February to interview Dr. Azad and feature the MILC Biorepository Lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Marni Brownell<\/strong>, professor of community health sciences and Manitoba Centre for Health Policy associate director of research, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/manitoba\/lack-of-supports-putting-kids-in-care-at-risk-of-brushes-with-the-law-people-involved-say-1.7146015\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/manitoba\/lack-of-supports-putting-kids-in-care-at-risk-of-brushes-with-the-law-people-involved-say-1.7146015\">spoke with CBC Manitoba<\/a> <\/strong>about how a lack of support contributes to Manitoba\u2019s high rate of youth in care and makes them more vulnerable to justice system involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cognitive Behaviour Therapy with Mindfulness for Health-Care Workers: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you a health-care worker who&#8217;s feeling stressed and overwhelmed? Thank you goes to Hiebert\u2019s advisor, <strong>Dr. Hafid Soualhine<\/strong>, co-advisor <strong>Meenu Sharma<\/strong>, and committee members <strong>Dr. Denice Bay<\/strong> and <strong>Dr. Morag Graham<\/strong> for their mentorship and encouragement, and as always, much gratitude to <strong>Dr. Jason Kindrachuk<\/strong> for chairing the event.<\/li><li>Congratulations to <strong>Titus Olukitibi<\/strong>, who successfully defended his thesis on Mar 4, 2024. A member of the examining commented that \u201cwork presented in the thesis and manuscripts provides a significant contribution to the influenza vaccine field and provides a credible method that could contribute to development of a universal influenza vaccine.\u201d\u00a0On behalf of the department, thank you to Olukitibi\u2019s advisor, <strong>Dr. Xiao-Jian Yao<\/strong>, advisor committee members, <strong>Drs. Darwyn Kobasa<\/strong>, <strong>Sam Kung<\/strong> and <strong>Lyle McKinnon<\/strong> for their roles in bringing Olukitibi to this step in his career path.
