The department of medical microbiology and infectious diseases is pleased to welcome the successful scholars, <strong>Will Anderson Riano Echavarria<\/strong> (Keynan), <strong>Paula Coelho Teixeira<\/strong> (Porto), and <strong>Liliana Lopez Manjarres<\/strong> (Rueda).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>Dr. Inna Rabinovich-Nikitin<\/strong>, assistant professor of&nbsp;physiology and pathophysiology, received a CIHR grant&nbsp;to study what could one day lead to new treatments to reduce the risk of heart disease in people with disrupted circadian rhythms ($1,032,750 over five years). <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.umanitoba.ca\/um-health-researchers-receive-more-than-9-6-million-in-federal-funding\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/news.umanitoba.ca\/um-health-researchers-receive-more-than-9-6-million-in-federal-funding\/\">Read more<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Zulma Rueda<\/strong>, Canada Research Chair in sexually transmitted infection \u2013 resistance and control and associate professor of medical microbiology and infectious diseases received a Winnipeg Rh Institute Foundation Inc. grant for a study titled <em>Host-Pathogen interaction and its lung implications in people living with HIV and affected by pneumonia<\/em> ($15,000 over two years).
