Protocol development, consent drafting and ethics preparation are underway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Farshid Ghiyamihoor<\/strong>, a PhD student in human anatomy and cell science, will be presenting at TEDx Winnipeg on May 28 on the Fort Garry Campus. His talk is titled &#8216;The Art of Brain Sculpting.&#8217; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tedxwinnipeg.ca\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/tedxwinnipeg.ca\/\">More info<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can-SOLVE CKD<\/strong> has recently released its <a href=\"https:\/\/cansolveckd.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/2025-Can-SOLVE-CKD-Impact-Report_FINAL.pdf\"><strong>2025 Impact Report<\/strong><\/a>. It&#8217;s a snapshot of the progress they&#8217;ve made \u2014 and continue to make \u2014 in implementation, knowledge mobilization and building national infrastructure and capacity for patient-oriented research in kidney health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>News from \u200bDr. Meghan Azad\u2019s THRiVE Discovery Lab<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Meghan Azad<\/strong>, professor of pediatrics and child health, and Canada Research Chair in early nutrition and the developmental origins of health and disease, was featured in a recent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/umtoday.ca\/stories\/um-researchers-drive-return-lactation-consultant-funding-manitoba\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/umtoday.ca\/stories\/um-researchers-drive-return-lactation-consultant-funding-manitoba\">UM Today article<\/a><\/strong> highlighting her role in helping to reinstate public funding for lactation consultants in Manitoba. Their discussions focused on sustaining HIV care in Kenya in the wake of U.S. funding cuts, with continued support from UM. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20260116091633\/https:\/\/news.umanitoba.ca\/um-helps-keep-hiv-program-in-kenya-running-following-u-s-funding-cuts\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20260116091633\/https:\/\/news.umanitoba.ca\/um-helps-keep-hiv-program-in-kenya-running-following-u-s-funding-cuts\/\">Read article<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MMID master of science student, <strong>Cara Follows<\/strong>, and the <strong>Fowke<\/strong> and <strong>Lajoie<\/strong> labs raised almost $5,000 for essential HIV prevention supplies for SWOP in Kenya. The recent withdrawal of funding from the United States has created a gap in life-saving supplies that people rely on through SWOP. <a href=\"https:\/\/crowdfunding.umanitoba.ca\/project\/majengo-clinic-fund\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/crowdfunding.umanitoba.ca\/project\/majengo-clinic-fund\/\"><strong>Donations can be made any time<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Julie Lajoie<\/strong>, assistant professor of MMID and F\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200brancis A. Plummer Professorship in Global Infectious Diseases, was featured by <em>La Libert\u00e9<\/em> in recognition of her impactful HIV research and her commitment to making science accessible to diverse communities. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.la-liberte.ca\/2025\/10\/07\/vih-revenir-a-la-base-resensibiliser\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.la-liberte.ca\/2025\/10\/07\/vih-revenir-a-la-base-resensibiliser\/\">Read article<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Zulma Rueda<\/strong>, associate professor of MMID and Canada Research Chair in sexually transmitted infection \u2013 resistance and control, appeared in a CTV News segment discussing efforts to combat HIV\u2011related stigma in Manitoba, highlighting the importance of community engagement and culturally informed approaches. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/winnipeg\/video\/2025\/07\/21\/fighting-hiv-stigma-in-manitoba\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/winnipeg\/video\/2025\/07\/21\/fighting-hiv-stigma-in-manitoba\/\">View video<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Yoav Keynan<\/strong>, professor of internal medicine and medical microbiology and infectious diseases, was featured in a recent <em>UM Today<\/em> article about a UM\u2011led project that will train people with lived experience across the Prairies to partner with researchers on developing clinical trials focused on HIV and sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections.
