{"id":671,"date":"2020-11-26T10:58:20","date_gmt":"2020-11-26T15:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca\/medicine\/?p=671"},"modified":"2020-11-26T10:58:20","modified_gmt":"2020-11-26T15:58:20","slug":"residents-quality-improvement-day-qid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca\/medicine\/residents-quality-improvement-day-qid\/","title":{"rendered":"Resident\u2019s Quality Improvement Day (QID)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Monday, January 18, 2021<\/strong><br \/>\nVirtual via Zoom<br \/>\n9:00 a.m. \u2013 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Family Medicine\u2019s Annual Quality Improvement Day (QID) will be held in collaboration with Continuing Competency and Assessment, Continuing Professional Development.<\/p>\n<p>This full-day event is the annual forum in which residents in their second year of training present their quality improvement projects. The event is a showcase of the richness of the residents\u2019 QI education and a celebration of its application within a primary care setting.<\/p>\n<p>We are very fortunate to have two esteemed guests at QID this year to contribute to the overall success of the day:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Wendy Levinson<\/strong><br \/>\nKeynote address: \u201cChoosing Wisely in the time of Covid\u201d at 11:00 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Levinson is a professor of medicine and past chair of the department of medicine at the University of Toronto. She is a national and international expert in the field of physician-patient communication, studying topics including the disclosure of medical errors to patients and informed decision making.<\/p>\n<p>She is presently the Chair of Choosing Wisely Canada, a campaign to help physicians and patients engage in conversations about unnecessary tests, treatments, and procedures.<\/p>\n<p>She also chairs and is coordinating Choosing Wisely International, a collaborative of the Choosing Wisely campaigns in over 25 countries worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, Dr. Levinson was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for her work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lorri Zagar<br \/>\n<\/strong>Quality improvement presentation at 3:20 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Zagar is a quality improvement practice facilitator with over 20 years of experience working in health and social services sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Initially working in planning and performance management, she now focuses on quality improvement in primary care.<\/p>\n<p>She received her improvement advisor certification from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in 2015.
