The Department of Family Medicine\u2019s Annual Quality Improvement Day (QID) will be held in collaboration with Continuing Competency and Assessment, Continuing Professional Development.<\/p>\n

This full-day event is the annual forum in which residents in their second year of training present their quality improvement projects. The event is a showcase of the richness of the residents\u2019 QI education and a celebration of its application within a primary care setting.<\/p>\n

We are very fortunate to have two esteemed guests at QID this year to contribute to the overall success of the day:<\/p>\n

Dr. Wendy Levinson<\/strong>
\nKeynote address: \u201cChoosing Wisely in the time of Covid\u201d at 11:00 a.m.<\/p>\n

Dr. Levinson is a professor of medicine and past chair of the department of medicine at the University of Toronto. She is a national and international expert in the field of physician-patient communication, studying topics including the disclosure of medical errors to patients and informed decision making.<\/p>\n

She is presently the Chair of Choosing Wisely Canada, a campaign to help physicians and patients engage in conversations about unnecessary tests, treatments, and procedures.<\/p>\n

She also chairs and is coordinating Choosing Wisely International, a collaborative of the Choosing Wisely campaigns in over 25 countries worldwide.<\/p>\n

In 2014, Dr. Levinson was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for her work.<\/p>\n

Lorri Zagar
\n<\/strong>Quality improvement presentation at 3:20 p.m.<\/p>\n

Zagar is a quality improvement practice facilitator with over 20 years of experience working in health and social services sectors.<\/p>\n

Initially working in planning and performance management, she now focuses on quality improvement in primary care.<\/p>\n

She received her improvement advisor certification from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in 2015. While coaching teams to improve remains a passion, she has more recently also focused her work on developing curriculum to teach quality improvement to family medicine residents and practicing physicians.<\/p>\n
