College creating new nursing skills video library

The College of Nursing is creating a new library of nursing skills videos on YuJa, a cloud platform for regulated sectors like education, health care and government.

The college ran a comprehensive review of its YouTube library in 2022 and identified 30 videos that no longer reflected best practice and were earmarked for replacement. The first step of the project is to recreate these for the new platform.

The next step will be to edit all remaining videos to align with YuJa’s video formatting. Upwards of 80 nursing skills videos will be made available to all through open access once all videos are complete.

“Both procedural changes and equipment changes inform what is taught, and with what equipment we teach with, at the College of Nursing. Advancements and changes are constant and we have now filmed 45 new nursing skills videos since this project began,” said Barbara Rose-Lovett, director of the skills and simulation centres.

Skills videos are step by step demonstrations that provide visual learning on how to properly execute techniques, based on best practice. The videos are part of course preparations and are also a resource for students to refer back to throughout the program. These videos standardize the education of the procedures, ensuring all students can transition into the clinical setting, delivering safe, competent, evidence informed care.
