Building Excellence and Fostering Inclusion: Highlights from the College of Nursing

Our commitment to excellence and inclusion remains at the heart of everything we do in the College of Nursing. It is through the efforts of our dedicated faculty, staff, students, and alumni that we continue to make meaningful strides.

This fall, we expanded our nurse practitioner (NP) program by adding 10 additional seats, increasing the total seats to 35. Looking ahead, we are thrilled to move forward with implementing a second intake of 25 NP students in January 2026. To ensure greater accessibility for nurses across the province, this winter intake will be offered online, complemented by in-person residencies, allowing for flexibility while upholding the highest standards of education.

Our virtual reality (VR) team continues to lead nationally in integrating VR and innovative technologies into simulation-based learning. This cutting-edge expertise has sparked national interest, with consultations and site visits from universities across Canada who are seeking to establish their own VR programs. This leadership reaffirms our commitment to pushing the boundaries of nursing education and fostering collaboration within the profession.

In research, we reached a historic milestone by securing $5.86 million in research funding this past year—the highest annual total in the College’s history. This achievement is a reflection of the stellar work and dedication of our faculty, staff, and students, driving advancements in nursing and healthcare knowledge and innovation.

We were honored to celebrate the grand opening of a new lounge for Indigenous nursing students, a space thoughtfully designed to support smudging and other cultural ceremonies. We also unveiled a stunning 52-foot Indigenous art mural in the atrium, which serves as a symbol of cultural awareness and our ongoing commitment to reconciliation. Together, these additions foster a stronger sense of belonging for our Indigenous students and enrich our college community.

These remarkable achievements are a testament to the exceptional work of our college community and our shared vision. Thank you for your continued support and dedication as we work together to shape the future of nursing and healthcare.
