Congratulations to the College of Nursing and MCNHR members on the following research and scholarly accomplishments that have been reported to us.

November 2024 update

Awards — Congratulations to:

Mandy Archibald, Lynda Balneaves, Cheryl Cusack, Michelle Lobchuk, Danielle Yaffe

Dr. Mandy Archibald who was cited top 0.5 per cent of scholars worldwide as recognized by ScholarGPS. Notably, her strong publication record, the impact of her work, and the notable quality of her scholarly contributions have placed Archibald in the top 0.5 per cent of all scholars.

Dr. Lynda Balneaves who was selected as a Fellow for the Society for Integrative Oncology, an international, multidisciplinary organization that advances the science and uptake of evidence-based integrative therapies in cancer care.

Congratulations to Dr. Cheryl Cusack, instructor II, for being inducted to the 2024 class of Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Nursing.

Dr. Michelle Lobchuk who was cited as top scholar by Expertise Lifetime (and/over prior five years); Scholar GPS placed Dr. Lobchuk in the top 0.5 per cent of all scholars worldwide; ranked #12 in the area of family caregivers.

Danielle Yaffe, instructor II, on being the ten-time recipient of the Nursing Students’ Association Teaching Excellence Award in the Bachelor of Nursing Program.

Congratulations to Dr. Dan Nagel, assistant professor, on his graduation from the UM Teaching and Learning Certificate Program.

New expert appointments — Congratulations to:

Dr. Els Duff, associate professor, has been appointed a peer reviewer for the 2025 ICN Congress scientific committee.

Dr. Tara Horrill, assistant professor, has been appointed scientist, at the Paul Albrechtsen Research Institute, CancerCare Manitoba.

Dr. Donna Martin, professor, has been appointed an abstract reviewer for the 2025 ICN Congress scientific committee.

Dr. Susan McClement, professor, has been appointed Professor Emeritus at the University of Manitoba.

Dr. Nicole Harder and team (Verkuyl, M., Attack, L., Violato, E., Southam, T., Lavoie-Tremblay, M., Goldsworthy, S., Ellis, W., & Campbell, S.) recipient of Best Abstract Award Winner – Patient Safety category for their project entitled Student survey results from a pan-Canadian virtual simulation program at the Society in Europe for Simulation in Prague, Czech Republic.

Dr. Jane Karpa, recipient of the 2024 Excellence in Leadership Award from the Registered Psychiatric Nursing Foundation of Manitoba.

Dr. Kim Mitchell for receiving an Honourable mention for the 2023 Doreen Starke-Meyerring Award for the best article or chapter in writing and discourse studies for the article, “Language as a proxy for race: Language and literacy and the nursing profession” published in Nursing Inquiry.

Dr. Diana McMillan on being promoted from the rank of associate professor to professor.

New appointments — congratulations to:

Vladan Protudjer, instructor II and College of Nursing lead, Office of Interprofessional Collaboration, on being appointed the interim director, Office of Interprofessional Collaboration.

Ryan English on being appointed as the interim operations manager effective from May 1, 2024 to January 31, 2026.

Jamie Penner, instructor II, on her appointment as director, curriculum integrity in the College of Nursing effective June 1, 2024.

Kim Mackay, instructor II, on her appointment as director, undergraduate nursing programs.
