A new holographic learning platform was piloted as part of the Health and Illness course for second and third-year nursing students this fall.
HoloPatient is a mixed-reality app that enables students to view a realistic hologram of a client with scripted pathologies. The hologram is projected onto both the classroom screen and students’ personal devices, allowing them to assess the client from any angle and proximity.
“Currently, HoloPatient is primarily used for observation, assessment, diagnosis, and care planning. While there is no direct interaction with the client at this stage, the rapidly advancing technology in the classroom could open up future opportunities for more interactive experiences,” said Jeanne San Miguel, interim director of the Clinical Competence Assessment Centre.
