On May 24, 144 students attended the College of Nursing’s second senior practicum showcase at UM’s Smartpark.

The event brought 23 Manitoba health-care employers together to share information with students and answer questions to help nursing students decide where to go for their senior practicum placements. It was funded by Shared Health and planned by the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Shared Health and the College of Nursing.

Kareena Ricafort was one of 12 June graduates who were invited to share their senior practicum experiences with students at the event. Her senior practicum was in community health, mostly working with post-partum clients.

“I wanted to spread the word about public health because it’s not always a top choice for nursing students. When you think about nursing you think about the hospital, but outside of the hospital we still help patients with their health,” she said.
