{"id":576,"date":"2021-06-01T13:51:59","date_gmt":"2021-06-01T18:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca\/nursing\/?p=576"},"modified":"2021-06-11T11:38:05","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T16:38:05","slug":"lynn-scruby-receives-community-engagement-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca\/nursing\/lynn-scruby-receives-community-engagement-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Lynn Scruby receives community engagement award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>College of Nursing assistant professor Dr. Lynn Scruby was recently awarded a <a href=\"https:\/\/umanitoba.ca\/admin\/vp_academic\/awards_honours\/outreach_award.html\">University of Manitoba Community Engagement Award<\/a>, and it couldn\u2019t have come at a better time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"467\" height=\"600\" src=\"http:\/\/news.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca\/nursing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/06\/Lynn-S-Scruby.png\" alt=\"Lynn Scruby\" class=\"wp-image-653\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca\/nursing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/06\/Lynn-S-Scruby.png 467w, https:\/\/news.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca\/nursing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/06\/Lynn-S-Scruby-234x300.png 234w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 467px) 100vw, 467px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI received the award on National Nursing Week. It was also my birthday that week, so it really was a special time,\u201d Scruby said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis award is very humbling, because it\u2019s for doing what I love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a board member of two foundations, Scruby is actively engaged in providing financial support to UM students. She is a board member and former president of the Women\u2019s Health Research Foundation of Canada (WHRFC), and is involved in fundraising efforts to support UM graduate students to pursue research in the area of women\u2019s health. Under her leadership, the foundation has fully endowed three scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, she was nominated by the WHRFC and received the Provincial Council of Women of Manitoba Celebrating Women Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also serves as director and officer of the Irene E. Nordwich Foundation, which provides financial assistance to deserving undergraduate and graduate students nursing students at UM and Western University in London, Ont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scruby also served for 10 years on the boards of Wolseley Family Place and Klinic Community Health. Both positions came to her after working with the agencies on UM and community collaborative research projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>College of Nursing dean Dr. Netha Dyck praised Scruby for the relationships she has built with community members and organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHer efforts are a shining example of how community-university engagement can add richness to teaching and research programs while also providing tangible benefits to local groups and communities,\u201d Dyck said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>College of Nursing assistant professor Dr. Lynn Scruby was recently awarded a University of Manitoba Community Engagement Award, and it couldn\u2019t have come at a better time. \u201cI received the award on National Nursing Week.
