On August 30, we welcomed our Year 1 PharmD class at a virtual orientation session. The orientation included faculty members and support staff who individually welcomed the students to the College of Pharmacy. Dean Lalitha Raman-Wilms provided opening remarks to the students. Dr. Raman-Wilms spoke of the pandemic and how the resilience of the citizens of Manitoba has allowed the University of Manitoba and the College of Pharmacy to safely return students to small group in-person labs and virtual lectures for the fall term.
Dr. Lavern Vercaigne, associate dean (academic), and Rani Chatterjee-Mehta, deputy registrar, College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM), provided overviews of the College of Pharmacy and the role of the CPhM to the students.
Dr. Raman-Wilms invited each student to introduce themselves and share why they have chosen a career in pharmacy. The University of Manitoba Pharmacy Student Association (UMPhSA) Council was also in attendance to welcome the new students to the PharmD Program.
Cheryl Lee, student advisor and program coordinator, and Dr. Vercaigne provided an in-depth orientation to the day-to-day requirements for the students. Following the orientation, the students had a virtual meet and greet with their second- and third-year colleagues.
We look forward to a very successful academic year!
