Congratulations to Dr. Dana Turcotte, assistant professor, College of Pharmacy, for earning her Teaching and Learning Certificate (TLC), from the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) at UM. Designed for faculty and full-time instructors in earlier stages of their respective teaching careers, the mentored program helps to develop the knowledge, skills and reflective teaching practice that enables educators to increase their competencies in the teaching-learning process and gain a deeper understanding of evidence-based best practices in higher education.
“The entire program is very helpful and exposes the course learner to educational theories and pedagogies, empowering us to apply evidence-based approaches to our teaching methodologies,” Dr. Turcotte said.
From sessions on enhancing cultural safety in the classroom to developing and implementing effective active learning strategies, Dr. Turcotte expressed how the ability to apply these approaches to teaching and course planning will be extremely useful and beneficial to both her and her students.
“As academics, we spend so much of our time honing the necessary skills that ultimately make us strong researchers,” Dr. Turcotte said. “This program provided me with knowledge and skills that will allow me to pursue excellence as an educator.”
