Multiple sclerosis (MS) is known as \u201cCanada\u2019s disease\u201d because we are home to the world\u2019s highest prevalence of MS. Each day, 12 individuals are diagnosed with MS in Canada, who will live with the disease for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 12, 2021 a multidisciplinary panel comprising of physicians and scientists with diverse expertise in MS epidemiology, diagnosis, genomics, pathogenesis, regeneration and treatment development provided a timely update on exciting advances in MS treatments and the ongoing innovative research in Manitoba that provide hope for individuals affected by MS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Kaarina Kowalec<\/strong>, assistant professor at the College of Pharmacy, joined the UM Caf\u00e9 Scientifique panel discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Getting the public\u2019s perspective on my research is critically important to doing impactful work,\u201d Dr. Kowalec said. \u201cThe panel was also a great experience during the pandemic, where events like these have often been cancelled and it can be really hard to reach the broader public.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
