<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\nSome tools Bull finds helpful when precepting is getting her students to set SMART goals at the beginning of their rotations and she also uses 10 to 15 minutes at the end of each day to give the student a chance to ask questions and give feedback. During those quick meetings she asks her students to tell her one thing they learned that day which will help to reinforce their learning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also helps the student develop a workflow system to utilize throughout their rotation. What this looked like by the end of the rotation was having them independently\u202fstart the day reviewing outstanding tasks\u202f\u2013 new patients to work up, lab work to review and drug info questions for example \u2013 then prioritizing and making a plan for the order and how she was going to approach these tasks. The student would then review their plan with her before getting started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- \u201cSomething I appreciated about Kaila is that she really encouraged me to develop my own systematic approach about how to address DTP’s and to customize things so that it works for me. I found that once I developed my own system it became a lot easier to identify possible DTP’s. She also taught me how to triage and prioritize what to work on first when we would start the day which I found to be very helpful.” <\/li>
- “My workstation was in a different place than hers, however when something came up she would come and get me so I can participate in the question or whatever activity it was. Kaila was very passionate about teaching and was very patient with me. She helped me gain more confidence in myself; she would promptly give me good feedback right after an interaction about what I was doing well, and what I can improve for next time. Kaila did a great job of assessing where my level was and correlating that to the amount of work I was given. She knew how to push me enough that I was outside of my comfort zone and able to learn new skills, but never where I felt too overwhelmed or stressed. As I got more comfortable with tasks, she allowed me to work more independently and gave me more work to do.\u201d <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
2022 IPPE Community Preceptor of the Year<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
\u202fSalil Prasher is the pharmacy manager of the Walmart Pharmacy (Lakewood location). Prasher graduated from the College of Pharmacy in 2014 and has been working with Walmart ever since. <\/p>\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\nSalil was asked for some tips for his fellow preceptors and he said that he tries to remember what it was like to be a student and what he liked about his rotations. Prasher credits his fourth-year preceptor and now colleague, Anthony Davis, with asking him what he wanted to learn and get from his rotation, and Davis tailored his rotation to meet his goals. He now asks that same question of all his students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 IPPE Hospital Preceptor of the Year Kaila Bull graduated from the College of Pharmacy in 2012.
