- In November 2025, the Canadian Antimicrobial Resistance Alliance (CARA), led by Dr George Zhanel, professor and associate department head of medical microbiology and infectious diseases, published an eight paper supplement in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. This supplement entitled ‘Seventeen years of the CANWARD study (2007–23)‘ documents 17 years of the CANWARD study. It provides a comprehensive examination of the causative pathogens of various infectious processes and their antimicrobial resistance patterns and trends in Canada over a 17-year period. The CANWARD study is an ongoing, national, Canadian Antimicrobial Resistance Alliance (CARA)/Health Canada-partnered, multi-year study focused on pathogens obtained from patients seeking care in Canadian hospitals.
