  • Dr. Meghan Azad, professor of pediatrics and child health, received the 2022 Ed Kroeger Mentorship Award. Read more.   • Dr. James Blanchard, professor of community health sciences, and executive director, Institute for Global Public Health, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, was elected to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Read more.
  • Dr. Jean-Eric Ghia, professor of immunology, is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (Manitoba) for service to the Winnipeg Consular Corps and service to the local cultural communities.

  • Dr. Josée G. Lavoie, professor of community health sciences, and director of Ongomiizwin – Research, Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing, was elected to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Read more.
  • Dr. Kirk McManus, professor of biochemistry and medical genetics, is the recipient of a University of Manitoba Merit Award in the Research, Scholarly Work and Creative Activities category. Read more.
  • Dr. Neeloffer Mookherjee, professor of internal medicine and immunology, received a University of Manitoba Merit Award for Service in the Life Sciences, Natural Sciences and Engineering category. Read more.
  • Dr. Michael Mulvey, professor of medical microbiology and infectious diseases, was awarded the 2022 Chief Public Health Officer of Canada Medal as selected by Chief Public Health Officer of Canada Dr. Theresa Tam. The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact on the Public Health Agency of Canada, its people or its work in the promotion and advancement of public health in Canada.
  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appointed Dr. Gigi Osler, assistant professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, to the Senate. Read more.
  • Dr. Bram Ramjiawan, adjunct professor of pharmacology and therapeutics, and director of clinical research, innovation and regulatory affairs and director of research, Asper Clinical Research Institute, St. Boniface Hospital and Research Centre, was elected to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.   • Dr. Jocelyn Reimer, assistant professor of community health sciences, and chief medical officer for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, was presented with a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal by Premier Heather Stefanson and Manitoba Lieutenant-Governor Janice Filmon. Read more.
  • Dr. Eric S. Sigurdson, associate professor of psychiatry, is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for his leadership, dedicated service to his peers, to his community, and to Manitoba and Canada. The honour was awarded by Manitoba Lieutenant-Governor Janice Filmon.
  • Dr. Mahmoud Torabi, professor of community health sciences, is the recipient of the 2022 Hukum Chandra Memorial Prize for the paper Sumca: Simple, Unified, Monte-Carlo Assisted Approach to Second-order Unbiased MSPE Estimation.
  • Dr. George Zhanel, professor and associate head medical microbiology and infectious diseases, was elected to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Read more.

  • Amin Abed, a PhD student in community health sciences (biostatistics), received the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship Award and the Fields Institute Travel Award.
  • Marina Costa Fujishima, a PhD candidate in immunology, won three awards at the Canadian Student Health Research Forum. She received the Dean of Medicine Poster Award, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Sex and Gender Research Gold Award and the Gairdner Award. Read more.
