Department of family medicine lauches Med.Zero

The department of family Medicine launched Med.Zero in August. The event, designed by Dr. Padma Mongru, program director for undergraduate education in the department of family medicine, invited the incoming UGME class to spend a half-day learning about the diverse practice of family medicine ahead of their orientation week.

More than 100 students attended the inaugural Med.Zero, where they heard from panelists about the immense value of family medicine for patients, doctors and communities. They also participated in a variety of skills labs led by preceptors and DFM residents, where they learned how to deliver a baby, intubate patients and insert IUDs.

The students completed a questionnaire at the end of the event, and early reports show that the learners came away with a positive view of family medicine, and discovered just how interesting, important and varied the field is.
