I am delighted to share with you that the Max Rady College of Medicine Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) program is fully compliant with all accreditation standards and elements! We received this excellent news recently from the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS.) This is a rare achievement for any medical school and an achievement worth celebrating! It recognizes the highest quality of medical education and administration that we have developed here at the University of Manitoba and all the efforts that went into moving the dial toward full compliance following the UGME accreditation survey visit in spring 2019.
We can all be proud of this exceptional result! My sincerest thanks to all faculty, staff, learners and our health system partners for their support in addressing any outstanding issues in a systematic, focused and professional manner over the last four years to advance us towards full compliance. I want to acknowledge Dean Emeritus Dr. Brian Postl’s critical leadership in achieving these accreditation results and give particular thanks to Dr. Aaron Chiu, associate dean, quality improvement and accreditation; Dr. Ira Ripstein, former associate dean, UGME; Raman Dhaliwal, executive director, RFHS; Manitoba Medical Students’ Association and the Integrated Accreditation Unit, RFHS, for their dedication and hard work in tackling the outstanding elements and preparing the follow-up reports for CACMS.
Thank you again to all of the deans, department heads, faculty, senior administrators, support staff, learners and our many partners and affiliates who make valuable contributions to our UGME program daily. I sincerely appreciate that you view accreditation as an ongoing process to ensure we are continually improving the quality of our education and learning environment.
The next full UGME accreditation visit will be scheduled in the academic year of 2026/2027. So buckle up! Under the leadership of Dr. James Butler, associate dean, UGME, and Dr. Maury Pinsk, assistant dean, UGME, and Dr. Chiu, it will be time for all stakeholders to start meeting again in the new year and begin our self-assessments to evaluate our learning environment, learner experience and our MD program as a whole.
Thank you to all those who were able to join us for Max Rady College of Medicine’s 140th Anniversary gala November 18. What an amazing night it was bringing together UM alumni, faculty, staff, learners and friends to celebrate our UM medical school’s past, present and future! Please take a moment to view the outstanding med 140 historical timeline and video vignettes.
All funds raised and donations in honour of Max Rady College of Medicine’s 140th anniversary will support vital bursaries for MD and graduate students so we can recruit and retain top learners who represent the diversity of the population we serve and ensure that our doors remain open to the best and brightest.
