Culturama celebrates diversity at College of Nursing

The Nursing Students’ Association (NSA) held an all-day event March 24 in the Helen Glass Atrium to celebrate the diverse cultures represented at the College of Nursing.

Culturama was organized by NSA international student representative Fayo Olatunji, treasurer Chioma Nwagbo, vice-president Faith Osoba and fourth-year nursing student Matthew Ushakov. The event included cultural displays, food and a red carpet fashion show featuring traditional clothing from seven participating students.

Olatunji said the event was designed for students to celebrate their own cultures, while learning about the backgrounds of their peers.

The cultures represented included Nigerian, Filipino, Indian, Korean, Ukrainian, Kenyan, Croatian, Chinese and Indigenous.

“This is an event we’ve wanted to do since last year, but there was a lot going on with students just returning to campus after COVID,” added Nwagbo.

The organizers said they hope the event can continue annually.
