New Beginnings

Our December newsletter features many new initiatives, experiences, accomplishments and contributions of our College of Nursing team. We were delighted to have the unique opportunity to establish a brand new program in September 2021 – the long-awaited Bachelor of Midwifery program. In honour of the Indigenous focus of our program, Elder Thelma Morrisseau facilitated a water ceremony with students and faculty to launch the program. It was gratifying to meet our six stellar students and hear about their journey that brought them to the program.

As we welcomed 950 students into our programs in September, we also celebrated with 110 students as they convocated from their undergraduate program in October and began their new career in nursing and with our 18 graduate students who convocated and returned to the nursing workforce.

We celebrated the remarkable achievements of our stellar faculty and students as they were honoured with prestigious awards, while we also commemorated the distinguished careers of two faculty in memoriam.

With the resolution of the UMFA strike, we are excited to resume the delivery of our quality programming and assist our students to complete their Fall Term courses.
