Dean’s message – Moving Forward: Expansion of Program and Services

Profile of Netha Dyck.

The College of Nursing is poised and eager to celebrate our inaugural summer intake as part of our major Bachelor of Nursing program expansion. We look forward to welcoming our 120 new students in May 2023. We have been successful in hiring additional faculty and staff who are prepared to provide quality education and a supportive learning environment for our students.

We had the unique privilege of celebrating with our 2020 and 2021 graduates, who had a virtual convocation during the pandemic, at an in-person convocation hosted by the University of Manitoba. It was exciting to meet with our graduates and gratifying to learn about the amazing contributions they are making across a wide range of practice areas in our health care system.

The Nursing Grand Rounds, established by Dr. Diana McMillan, associate professor and Health Sciences Centre Clinical Chair, are strengthening connections across nursing research and practice. This monthly “Catalysts for Care” speaker series is providing a great venue for clinicians, researchers, scholars, and students to share knowledge, expertise and insights with colleagues from across Manitoba and interprovincially.

We were delighted to establish the joint position of Riverview Health Centre Research Chair in Person-Directed Living and appoint Dr. Genevieve Thompson, professor, to the role. Genevieve will utilize and evaluate evidence-informed practice to improve the quality of life of older people and their families, the quality of care, and the quality of work for those employed at RHC.

Our planning process is underway to celebrate the College of Nursing’s 80th anniversary, which comes at a time of further growth and expansion of the college. Our event will take place in conjunction with Homecoming 2023 in September. Please stay tuned for further information.
