The College of Pharmacy is pleased to be a part of a number of recently funded projects:

Hagar Labouta, assistant professor at the College of Pharmacy

  • New Frontiers in Research Fund, Hagar Labouta and Dr. Richard Keijzer (Dept. of Surgery, UM), $250,000, “Transplacental Delivery of MicroRNA-Loaded Nanoparticles for Corrective Congenital Therapy Before Birth”
  • Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) discovery grant + Early Career Investigator Award, Dr. Hagar Labouta, $152,500, “Combined In vitro Experimental and Computational Approaches for Predicting the Identity and Behaviour of Protein Corona-Adsorbed Nanoparticles”
  • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) grant, Dr. Hagar Labouta and Dr. Brenda Stoesz (Center of Teaching and Learning, UM), $25,000, “Open laboratories: Interdisciplinary science research and education – A pilot study”
  • Interstellar funding, Dr. Hagar Labouta, Dr. Seiichiro Ishihara from Hokkaido University in Japan, and Dr. Simona Giunta from Sapienza University of Rome in Italy, $20,900 USD, for international collaboration to further develop and prepare for a larger fund.

  • Manitoba Centre for Nursing and Health Research (MCNHR) Collaborative Health Research Grant, Dr. Scruby L. (Nursing). Co-investigators:  Alessi-Severini S. (Pharmacy), Dr. Fricke M. (Physiotherapy), Dr. Whetter I. (Medicine), Dr. Harder N. (Nursing); Ms. Isse A. (Nursing), $7,500, “Designing Interprofessional Simulation Based on Student Feedback and Evidence in the Practice of Refugee Health Care Provision”

Geoff Tranmer, associate professor at the College of Pharmacy

  • 2020 NCERC Alliance Grant, Dr. Geoffrey Tranmer, $49,985, “FlowCoV: Development of flow chemistry methods related to COVID-19”

Christine Leong

  • Research Manitoba COVID-19 Rapid Response Grant
  • Dr. Christine Leong (PI) received $100,000 from Research Manitoba to study healthcare and medication use among individuals living with mental illness during the pandemic. Drs. James Bolton, Murray Enns, and Jitender Sareen (Psychiatry) are also involved in Leong’s study.

Sherif Eltonsy

  • Research Manitoba COVID-19 Rapid Response Grant
  • Dr. Eltonsy (PI) received $150,000 from Research Manitoba to study the impact of physical distancing measures on health service use in vulnerable populations. Drs. Christina Raimondi (Family Medicine), Katherine Kearns (Family Medicine), and Ramzi Helewa (Surgery) are also involved in Eltonsy’s study.
