Message from the department head

March 2021

I wanted to follow-up with all staff, faculty and learners to provide you with an update on the progress we have made to date on the development of a new strategic plan to guide the department’s direction and strategic focus for the next three years.

Through December 2020 to mid-February 2021, a variety of stakeholder consultations have occurred including 25 primary stakeholder interviews, two surveys directed to all staff/ faculty and learners within the department, and a series of seven focus groups with key partners and interest groups, both inside and external to the university. The response and level of engagement has exceeded our expectations.

In total, we logged over 1,600 specific comments through the engagement process that will now be themed and a consolidated summary along with the results of an environmental scan will be provided to the strategic planning committee to guide the development of our next  strategic plan.

Over the next few weeks, the department’s strategic committee will be meeting to update our vision, mission and values statements, and to identify our future orientations. We anticipate a final strategic plan being completed by June 2021.

Thank-you for your participation and interest and we will continue to provide progress updates to you as the process continues.

Dr. José François
Department Head, Family Medicine
