  • Sara Kreindler, assistant professor of community health sciences, has created a nontraditional tool for opening up the conversation on health reform. Her research-informed satirical musical, Larry Saves the Canadian Healthcare System, is available on YouTube. The 11-episode micro-series peels back the layers of system dysfunction in an accessible and entertaining way. The series, funded by Research Manitoba, has garnered YouTube views in the five digits and multiple requests to use the videos for educational purposes.
  • The Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program would like to congratulate the Class of 2022 on their graduation. Convocation was held on Oct. 27 in the Brodie Atrium on Bannatyne Campus. The Class of 2022 are a dedicated group of physician assistants who are eager and excited to start their career practicing medicine. Read more about convocation.
  • The Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program (MPAS) welcomes the Class of 2024. Students started their academic year in Sept., after a week of orientation and the inaugural ceremony. The MPAS Class of 2024 are a bright group of students who are enthusiastic about starting their learning journey to become Canadian Certified Physician Assistants.   • Dr. Dylan Mackay, assistant professor of internal medicine, presented at the 2022 Diabetes Canada/CSEM Professional Conference in Calgary in Nov. as part of the Clinical Practice Guidelines update. He presented the new chapter on Diabetes Remission.
  • Dr. Sandor Demeter, associate professor of community health sciences, is taking part in a Fellowship in Global Journalism through the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. This is a one-year part-time fellowship with the specific goal of training content experts on the craft of journalism and actively mentoring fellows along their journey.
  • Dr. Karen Duncan, associate professor of community health sciences, was appointed to the position of associate editor with the Journal of Family and Economic Issues.
  • The new department of immunology BSL2+ lab space officially opened on Aug. 22. The department would like to thank the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and vice-dean research for funding this renovation, and the Canada Foundation for Innovation for funding the exciting equipment that will arrive this year. The department would like to give a big thank you to everyone in immunology for supporting their research plans.
