Dean’s Message

One of the most gratifying aspects of my role as dean is watching our learners grow in confidence as they absorb knowledge, develop skills and prepare to serve as capable health-care professionals.

The Rady Faculty of Health Sciences is committed to cultivating a supportive learning environment in which our students thrive, both academically and personally.

Robust supports are provided through UM Student Services, Student Services at Bannatyne Campus, dedicated college staff, and Rady-wide units such as the Office of Anti-Racism, the Office of Equity, Access and Participation, the Rady Family Centre and the Office of Professionalism.

I am delighted to share with you that across all UM health profession programs, students are achieving exceptional results on national licensing and certification exams, consistently meeting or exceeding national averages.

These outcomes reflect the strength of our programs’ curricula, clinical training, faculty expertise, and of course our learners’ hard work and dedication.

In 2024 and in 2025, UM dental hygiene students achieved a 100 per cent pass rate on the National Dental Hygiene Certification Exam.

In 2024, 96 per cent of UM dental students passed the National Dental Examining Board of Canada Virtual Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE), compared to the national average of 90.4 per cent.

In 2025, the pass rate by Max Rady College of Medicine graduates was 99 per cent for the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam, compared to the national average of 91.5 per cent. UM pharmacy students have ranked first or second for the last two years on the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada Pharmacist Qualifying Exam and OSCE.

In 2024, the UM pass rate was 94.9 per cent (first nationally), compared to the national average pass rate of 84.1 per cent. In 2025, the UM pass rate was 90.3 per cent (compared to the national average of 82 per cent), ranking UM second nationally.

In 2025, 90 per cent of UM physical therapy grads passed the Physiotherapy Competency Exam on their first attempt and 100 per cent passed after their second attempt. This compares to the national average of a 96 per cent success rate on first attempt and 95 per cent on second attempt.

In 2024, the pass rate for UM occupational therapy graduates on the National Occupational Therapy Certification Examination was 97.8 per cent, exceeding the reference group average.

In 2025, UM respiratory therapy students had a 94.4 per cent pass rate on the National Licensing Examination for Registered Respiratory Therapist Credentialing, with UM students outperforming the national mean across all competency domains.

In 2024, the pass rate for UM bachelor of nursing (BN) grads was 92.6 per cent, compared to the national average of 90.8 per cent on the National Council Licensure Examination – Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) Next Generation exam.

In 2025, the UM pass rate for BN grads was 93.2 per cent, compared to the national average of 88.9 per cent.

Since 2021, 100 per cent of UM midwifery graduates have passed the Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam on their first attempt.

Bravo! These remarkable results confirm that our Rady Faculty graduates are highly competent, workforce-ready and nationally competitive. The academic and clinical rigour of our Rady programs thoroughly prepares our graduates for professional practice.

Thank you to the deans, faculty members, clinical instructors, preceptors and staff across all our colleges and schools. Your leadership, mentorship and dedication support our students’ success.
