In 2025, the University of Manitoba conferred emeritus/emerita titles upon the following Rady Faculty of Health Sciences faculty members, recognizing their distinguished service to the university through teaching, research, scholarship and professional service.

DR. LESLIE L. ROOS, Distinguished Professor Emeritus

Dr. Leslie L. Roos, an influential leader in population health and health policy research, joined the university in 1973. In 1991 he co-founded UM’s Manitoba Centre for Health Policy. He led the creation of its world-class population data repository, enabling groundbreaking studies on the health and wellbeing of Manitobans. His honours include the Graduate Students’ Association Award for Distinction in Mentorship. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

DR. KEVIN COOMBS, Professor Emeritus

Dr. Kevin Coombs joined the department of medical microbiology and infectious diseases in 1990 and held cross-appointments in physiology and pathophysiology, as well as microbiology. He was also a researcher with the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba. An expert in virus assembly, virus-host interactions and viral proteomics, Coombs has received nearly $29 million in research funding and has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles. His leadership has included service as associate dean in the Max Rady College of Medicine and the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

DR. ELISSAVET KARDAMI, Professor Emerita

Dr. Elissavet Kardami distinguished herself for nearly four decades in the departments of physiology and human anatomy and cell science, advancing the field of cardiovascular science. An authority on the FGF-2 protein, Kardami shared her work in 114 peer-reviewed publications. She was a lab director in muscle cell biochemistry at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at St. Boniface Hospital. She was recognized with a Distinction in Mentorship Award and a Graduate Teaching Award. In 2009, she was honoured with a YMCA-YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Research and Innovation.

DR. EBERHARD RENNER, Professor Emeritus

Dr. Eberhard Renner, a prominent figure in hepatology, led the UM department of internal medicine from 2016 to 2024. Renowned for his work in liver transplantation, he studied factors affecting successful living donor transplantation and inequities in access. As provincial specialty lead for internal medicine with Shared Health, he consolidated 12 clinics into a single centre of excellence. His achievements were recognized with the Canadian Liver Foundation’s 50th Anniversary Medal and the Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver.
